Lorcaserin is not nearly as effective or as safe as they make it out to be.<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><\/h6>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Lorcaserin<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This new weight loss drug is claimed to be &#8216;highly effective&#8217;, and safe for your heart. Similar drugs had been withdrawn (years ago) on safety concerns. Here&#8217;s what I learned about Lorcaserin, from this recent <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa1808721\">study<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It works by <strong>controlling the appetite<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is very <strong>expensive<\/strong> ($213 for a 30-day supply).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Interactions<\/strong> with other drugs or herbal remedies have not been tested.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">More than 20 <strong>side-effects<\/strong> are listed. Many are serious, like thoughts of suicide, and extremely painful erections &#8211; that last more than 6 hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The group that took the drug was, on average 4 kg lighter after 3 years. The placebo group, 2 kg lighter. That&#8217;s a highly <strong>unimpressive<\/strong> 2 kg difference.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The trial was funded by the drug company that manufactures the weight loss drug. A major <strong>conflict of interest<\/strong> here.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A non-industry funded <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/openheart.bmj.com\/content\/1\/1\/e000173\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">review<\/span><\/a> of Lorcaserin&#8217;s side effects actually revealed <strong>significant concerns<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Weight Loss<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When it comes to weight loss, our desire for a quick fix is intense. We want to eat whatever we want but remain slim and healthy. There is no shortage of unscrupulous companies who know this all too well and are happy to peddle their next \u2018revolutionary\u2019 weight loss product. We know that these products probably won\u2019t work, but we buy them anyway, even if doing so compromises our health. I am not here to tell you what to do, rather, to give you the information you need to make an informed decision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In my opinion, 2 kg weight loss in 3 years appears appallingly trivial in the context of the potential side effects.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As I said in <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/insulean.co.uk\/orlistat\/\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">this article<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>about the weight loss drug, Orlistat, avoid all weight loss pills, supplements or \u2019miracle\u2019 products. Many are not regulated and could potentially be dangerous. As discussed earlier, those that are regulated, like Lorcaserin, are not particularly effective. Don\u2019t be tempted. Focus on addressing your lifestyle and the real causes of your weight gain. There is no\u00a0pill out there that will get you thin overnight. It took much more than a few days to put the weight on, you must accept that it will take some time to get the weight off again. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Obesity is a hormonal problem<\/strong>, affected by what we eat and how often we eat.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The holy grail? Eat. Real.
